As an art teacher I believe that teaching is a process rooted in nurturing, exploration and holistic growth. I believe that art education should not only develop intellectual ability but also cultivate emotional intelligence, creativity, and a deep sense of self. My philosophy centres on viewing each student as a whole person whose learning journey develops beyond the classroom.
Art Education, to me, is not only about imparting knowledge but also about fostering the conditions for students to thrive as confident, compassionate and self-actualized individuals. Drawing inspiration from holistic and humanistic approaches such as the Steiner philosophy, I see learning as a living process—one that unfolds through rhythm, imagination, and exploration. My classroom strives to become a student-centred place where they feel seen, heard and valued. Through nurturing curiosity and encouraging exploration I empower students to take ownership of their own learning. I recognise that every student’s needs are unique and I aim to respond to those needs with empathy and adaptability. Ensuring that their physiological and emotional well-being are supported through recognizing that a balanced and healthy student is best positioned to learn and thrive. This is and essential foundation for students learning.
My role as a teacher is to cultivate an environment of trust, respect and inspiration, where every student feels empowered to explore and question. Through holistic, student-centered practice, I hope to inspire learners to approach life creatively and compassionately—to see art not just as a subject, but as a way of being in the world.
"The need for imagination, a sense of truth and a feeling of responsibility - these are the three forces which are the very nerve of education" - Rudolf Steiner.
